Flooding Disrupts Travel

Record-breaking rainfall has caused flooding in Dubai and the wider Gulf region, disrupting travel at Dubai International Airport. On Wednesday, about 300 flights to and from the airport were canceled.

Heavy Rainfall

As of midnight Tuesday, 559 inches of rain had fallen on Dubai over 24 hours. This exceeds the average annual rainfall of 373 inches for the city. The heavy downpour has caused extensive flooding, leaving major roads impassable.

Airport Disruption

The flooding has had a significant impact on Dubai International Airport, which is a major hub for connecting flights to every continent. The airport has reported that a total of 2,500 flights have been canceled since the storm began. This has affected thousands of passengers, including many from the United Kingdom.

Ongoing Efforts

Authorities are working to clear the floodwater and resume normal operations at the airport. However, it is not yet clear when the situation will be resolved. Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest flight information.
