Review
Part One – A Child of Fire proves Zack Snyder hasn't lost his visual flair, but eye candy isn't enough to offset a storyline made up of various sci-fi/fantasy tropes. When a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, they dispatch Kora, a young woman with a mysterious past, to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them fight back.
Snyder's direction is as visually stunning as ever, with sweeping shots of alien landscapes and elaborate action sequences. The cast is also strong, with Boutella delivering a standout performance as Kora. However, the film's script is a major letdown. The story is predictable and unoriginal, and the characters are underdeveloped. As a result, Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire feels like a hollow imitation of Snyder's better works.
