Mandisa Lynn Hundley Dies at Age 47

Grammy-winning gospel singer Mandisa, who rose to fame on season five of American Idol, has died at age 47. A representative for the singer confirmed her death on Friday.

Mandisa, born Mandisa Lynn Hundley, was found dead in her Nashville home on April 18. No cause of death has been released.

Mandisa finished ninth on the fifth season of American Idol, which was won by Taylor Hicks. The season also featured future stars Katharine McPhee, Chris Daughtry, and Kellie Pickler.

After her run on American Idol, Mandisa went on to release five studio albums and win a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for her 2013 album Overcomer.

Mandisa's death has shocked and saddened the music world. Fellow gospel singer Natalie Grant shared a tribute to her late friend on social media, writing, “Mandisa, you were a light in this world. Your voice was a gift, your spirit was infectious, and your love for Jesus was evident in everything you did.”
