Gateway Arch National Park Welcomes 1 Million Visitors in Past Month

Historic Landmark Draws Crowds

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Gateway Arch National Park welcomed its 1 millionth visitor in the past month, a milestone that underscores the enduring popularity of the iconic landmark. The park, which includes the Gateway Arch and its surrounding grounds, has seen a steady increase in visitation in recent years, thanks to its unique historical significance and its stunning views of the St. Louis skyline.

A Symbol of Unity

“The Gateway Arch is a symbol of unity and progress for our city and our country,” said Gateway Arch National Park Superintendent John McCarthy. “We are thrilled that so many people have chosen to visit the park and experience its beauty firsthand.” The Gateway Arch was designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen and completed in 1965. It is the tallest man-made monument in the United States, standing at 630 feet tall. The arch is made of stainless steel and consists of two parabolic curves that meet at the top. Visitors can take a tram to the top of the arch for panoramic views of the city.

A Popular Destination

The Gateway Arch National Park is one of the most popular tourist destinations in St. Louis. In addition to the arch, the park includes the Old Courthouse, which was the site of the Dred Scott trial, and the Museum of Westward Expansion. The park also offers a variety of educational programs and events throughout the year. The park's 1 millionth visitor was a family from California. They said they were impressed by the arch's size and beauty. “It's a truly amazing sight,” said the father of the family. “We're so glad we had the opportunity to visit.”

The Gateway Arch National Park is open every day of the year. Admission is free. For more information, please visit the park's website at www.nps.gov/jeff.
