Changes to Antique Vehicle Laws in Pennsylvania

New Regulations for Commercial Use and Lighting Requirements

Effective immediately, antique and classic vehicles in Pennsylvania are subject to new regulations regarding commercial use and lighting requirements. These changes aim to enhance safety and clarify the rules surrounding the operation of these vehicles.

Commercial Use Restrictions

Previously, there were no restrictions on using antique or classic vehicles for commercial purposes. However, the new regulations prohibit the operation of such vehicles for commercial purposes or general transportation. This means that antique and classic vehicles cannot be used for ride-sharing, taxi services, or other commercial activities.

Lighting Requirements

The new regulations also provide clarity regarding the lighting requirements for antique vehicles. While antique vehicles were previously exempt from the normal lighting requirements, this exemption now only applies to vehicles operated exclusively between sunrise and sunset. This means that antique vehicles must now display the following lights when operated after sunset:

  • Headlights
  • Taillights
  • Brake lights
  • Turn signals
  • License plate lights

Additional Changes

The new regulations also address the following misconceptions and clarifies:

  • Antique and classic vehicles do not have to undergo emissions inspections.
  • Antique vehicles may be driven at night if they meet the new lighting requirements.

These changes are designed to ensure that antique and classic vehicles are operated safely and legally on Pennsylvania roadways.
