International Cat Day: Honoring Our Feline Companions

Celebrating the Bond Between Humans and Cats

Every year on August 8th, we celebrate International Cat Day, a global event dedicated to recognizing and cherishing our beloved feline companions. This day was established in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) to raise awareness about the importance of cat welfare and responsible ownership.

A Prolific Presence in Entertainment

Throughout history, cats have captured the hearts and imaginations of audiences in film and television. One unforgettable feline, known as WEB Orangey, enjoyed a prolific career under various names in the 1950s. Orangey's most notable role was as the tabby cat on the lap of Vito Corleone in the iconic film “The Godfather.” While the cat's appearance was not initially included in the script, it became an endearing and memorable part of the film's legacy.
