Portland International Airport Expands with Groundbreaking Mass Timber Terminal

Innovative Design and Sustainable Materials

Portland International Airport (PDX) has unveiled its newly expanded main terminal, a testament to innovation and sustainability. The 9-acre redevelopment project features 33 million feet of regionally-sourced mass timber, making it one of the largest mass timber structures in the world.

Soaring Roof and Modern Amenities

The terminal boasts a soaring pre-fabricated roof that covers the check-in and security areas. The impressive roof is a testament to the strength and beauty of mass timber, which is sustainably harvested and engineered for exceptional durability.

Travelers passing through PDX on Wednesday were the first to experience the new terminal, which offers modern amenities and a welcoming atmosphere. The airport's $2 billion makeover culminates in this locally sourced, 18-million-pound mass timber roof, showcasing the region's architectural ingenuity and commitment to environmental stewardship.

Yakama Forest Products, one of the suppliers for the project, played a crucial role in providing high-quality mass timber for the terminal's construction.
