In Nova Scotia, the snow has been relentless, with some areas receiving over 100 centimeters (40 inches) of snowfall.

Kent and Deanna Peters were among those who had to shovel for hours to clear the snow from their ranch.

State of Emergency Declared

On Monday, the Cape Breton Regional Municipality declared a local state of emergency for the next seven days.

The declaration allows the municipality to access additional resources and take measures to protect the public.

The state of emergency is expected to remain in effect until the snowstorm has passed.

More Snowfall Expected

According to Environment Canada, parts of Nova Scotia are expected to see an additional 30 to 50 centimeters of snow by Monday.

The snowfall is expected to continue throughout the day and into the evening.
