Doug Emhoff's Background

Douglas Emhoff, the first-ever Second Gentleman of the United States, is an accomplished lawyer and husband to Vice President Kamala Harris.

Before marrying Harris, Emhoff practiced entertainment law for over 25 years, representing clients in the music, film, and television industries.

Emhoff met Harris in 2013 through a mutual friend on a blind date.

They married a year later in a ceremony officiated by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Their union marked the first time an African American woman and South Asian man had married into the second-highest office in the land.

As Second Gentleman, Emhoff has embraced his unique role as a visible and supportive spouse of the Vice President.
