Tim Walz: Minnesota's 41st Governor

Early Life and Career

Timothy James Walz was born on April 6, 1964, and grew up in Mankato, Minnesota. He attended Mankato State University, graduating with a degree in geography and social studies. After college, Walz taught high school geography for 12 years and worked part-time as a referee and umpire.

Military Service

In 1989, Walz joined the Army National Guard and served for 24 years, including a tour in Iraq in 2005-2006. He rose to the rank of Command Sergeant Major.

Political Career

Walz entered politics in 2006, winning a seat in the Minnesota House of Representatives. He served three terms as a state representative, rising to the position of Majority Leader.

U.S. Congress

In 2008, Walz ran for the U.S. House of Representatives and was elected to represent Minnesota's 1st Congressional District. He served four terms in Congress, focusing on issues such as veterans affairs, agriculture, and renewable energy.

Governor of Minnesota

In 2018, Walz was elected Governor of Minnesota, becoming the state's first Democratic governor in eight years. He was re-elected in 2022.
