Cubs Release Neris, Call Up Neely

Cubs Part Ways with Veteran Closer

The Chicago Cubs have released veteran reliever Hector Neris, ESPN's Jesse Rogers reports. Neris had cleared waivers after being designated for assignment.

Neely Summoned to Fill Roster Spot

The Cubs will replace Neris on the roster with right-handed pitcher Jack Neely, who has been called up from Triple-A Iowa.

Neris' Tumultuous Season

Neris has struggled during the 2022 season, posting a 3.89 ERA in 35 appearances. He has walked 23 batters in 25.2 innings while striking out 32.

However, Neris pitched effectively in his last 18 outings, registering a 2.60 ERA. He had become a valued member of the Cubs' clubhouse as a veteran presence.
