Hawaii Forecasters Monitor Two Developing Weather Systems

Low Pressure Area and Tropical Disturbance Under Observation

Forecasters keep a watchful eye on two weather disturbances over the western portion of the East Pacific Ocean.

An area of low pressure located about 1,100 miles east-southeast of Hilo is showing signs of organization. Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) say the disturbance has a 40% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 48 hours.

A second disturbance, located about 1,500 miles east-southeast of Hilo, is less organized but still has the potential to develop into a tropical cyclone. The NHC gives this disturbance at 20% chance of developing within the next 48 hours.

Both disturbances expected to move west-northwest

Both disturbances are expected to move west-northwest over the next few days. The first disturbance is expected to pass south of the Hawaiian Islands, while the second disturbance is expected to pass north of the islands.
