‘Fascists’: Jack White threatens to sue Trump campaign over use of music

White Stripes and Raconteurs rocker will seek legal action if his song continues to be used

Jack White has threatened to sue Donald Trump’s presidential campaign if it continues to use his music at rallies. In a statement released on Friday (October 21), White said he was “disgusted” that his song ‘Seven Nation Army’ had been used without his permission.

“I have repeatedly stated that my music is not to be used for political purposes,” White said. “I am disgusted that the Trump campaign has repeatedly ignored my wishes and continues to use my songs without my permission.”

White is not the first artist to take legal action against Trump’s campaign

In August, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe both sent cease and desist letters to the campaign after their songs were used at Trump rallies. White’s threat of legal action is the latest in a growing number of protests against the use of music without artists’ consent.

In recent months, several other artists have spoken out against the use of their music by politicians. In August, Neil Young threatened to sue Trump’s campaign if it continued to use his song ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’ at rallies.

The use of music without artists’ consent is a violation of copyright law. In addition to seeking legal action, artists can also file a complaint with the Copyright Office. The Copyright Office can then issue a subpoena to the infringing party, requiring them to stop using the copyrighted material.

Artists have a right to control how their music is used

Artists have the right to control how their music is used. This includes the right to decide whether or not their music is used for political purposes. When a politician uses an artist’s music without their permission, they are violating the artist’s copyright.

It is important for politicians to respect the rights of artists. When they use music without permission, they are not only breaking the law, but they are also disrespecting the artist’s work.
