Brighton’s Marc Cucurella expresses concerns to club over Marc Jurado transfer to Barcelona

Albion left-back believes deal is ‘not correct’ for the young defender

Marc Cucurella has expressed his concerns to Brighton over Marc Jurado’s transfer to Barcelona, believing the move is “not correct” for the young defender.

Jurado, 18, joined Barca from the Seagulls in a deal worth around £1.5m earlier this summer, having joined Brighton from Espanyol in 2021.

The versatile defender made six first-team appearances for Albion last season, but Cucurella believes he should have been given a chance to establish himself at the club.

“I think it’s not correct what happened with Marc Jurado,” Cucurella told reporters on Friday.

“He’s a young player, he played with us last season and he showed his quality.

“I think the club should have given him more chances to show his quality and I think it’s a mistake to let him go.

Cucurella’s friendship with Jurado

Cucurella and Jurado are close friends, having played together at youth level for Barcelona.

The Brighton left-back was instrumental in Jurado’s decision to join the Seagulls last year, and he is disappointed to see his friend leave.

“Marc is a great player and I think he has a big future ahead of him,” Cucurella added.

“I wish him all the best at Barcelona, but I think Brighton have made a mistake in letting him go.

Brighton’s transfer policy

Brighton have been criticized by some for their transfer policy in recent years, with the club often selling their best players to bigger clubs.

Cucurella’s comments suggest that he is unhappy with the club’s approach, and it will be interesting to see if his concerns are shared by other players.

It remains to be seen whether Jurado will be a success at Barcelona, but Cucurella’s comments suggest that the Seagulls may have made a mistake in letting him go.
