2 Bicyclists Killed After Being Struck by Car in Salem County, New Jersey, State Police Say

Two bicyclists tragically lost their lives after being struck by a car in Salem County, New Jersey, according to the New Jersey State Police.

The incident occurred on County Road 616 in Pilesgrove Township at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2023.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2014 Honda Accord operated by a 22-year-old male resident of Wilmington, Delaware, was traveling eastbound on County Road 616 when it collided with two bicyclists who were traveling in the same direction.

Victims Identified

The bicyclists have been identified as 55-year-old Anthony V. Della Porta of Monroeville and 57-year-old John W. Lawson of Pilesgrove.

Both victims were pronounced deceased at the scene by responding emergency medical personnel.

Investigation Ongoing

The New Jersey State Police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The investigation is being conducted by the Troop “A” Criminal Investigation Office and the Salem County Prosecutor's Office.

No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
