The Auburn Tigers have landed a huge commitment from four-star safety Caleb Downs, the nation's No. 1 safety and No. 11 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to 247Sports.

Downs, who is from Hoschton, Georgia, flipped his commitment from the Ohio State Buckeyes to the Tigers on Friday.

He is the highest-rated prospect to commit to Auburn since defensive end Carl Lawson in 2014.

  • Downs is a consensus five-star prospect and is considered one of the best safeties in the country.
  • He had offers from nearly every major program in the country.
  • Downs is expected to make an immediate impact for the Tigers.

Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin was thrilled to land Downs.

“Caleb is a special player and we are so excited to have him join our program,” Harsin said. “He is a dynamic playmaker who can make an impact in all phases of the game.”

Downs is the latest in a string of big-name recruits to commit to Auburn.

The Tigers have now signed the nation's No. 1 safety, No. 1 cornerback, and No. 1 running back in the 2023 class.

Auburn is now considered one of the top contenders for the national championship in 2023.
