Weather in America: August 29, 2024

Extreme heat and humidity to continue across much of the country

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for much of the country, as temperatures are expected to reach dangerous levels in many areas. The heat index, which measures how hot it actually feels when humidity is factored in, could reach up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit in some places.

The heat is expected to be especially oppressive in the Midwest and Northeast, where temperatures could reach the upper 90s or even 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The humidity will make it feel even hotter, and there is little relief in sight.

Stay cool and hydrated

It is important to take precautions to stay cool and hydrated during this heat wave. Drink plenty of fluids, even if you don't feel thirsty. Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day. Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.

If you start to feel dizzy, lightheaded, or nauseous, seek medical attention immediately. These could be signs of heat-related illness, which can be serious if not treated.

Long-term forecast

The heat wave is expected to continue for the next several days. There is some relief in sight, as temperatures are expected to start to cool down by the end of the week.

However, the long-term forecast is calling for a warmer-than-average summer. So, it is important to be prepared for more hot weather in the coming months.
