AAA Predicts Nearly 39 Million Americans to Hit the Road

With the Labor Day holiday weekend approaching, Americans are expected to travel in large numbers as pandemic restrictions ease.

AAA predicts that nearly 39 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home during the holiday weekend, a 3.9% increase from last year.

The vast majority of travelers, approximately 34.8 million, are expected to drive to their destinations.

Air travel is also expected to increase, with AAA predicting that 3.4 million Americans will fly during the holiday weekend.

AAA advises drivers to plan ahead, allow extra time for travel, and be prepared for delays.

The organization also recommends that drivers get their vehicles inspected before hitting the road and to make sure they have a full tank of gas.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were 424 traffic fatalities over the 2021 Labor Day weekend.

Of those fatalities, 40% involved a drunk driver.

AAA urges drivers to never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The NHTSA also recommends that drivers buckle up, obey speed limits, and avoid distractions while driving.
