A man who robbed several Kansas City-area businesses while wearing a Patrick Mahomes jersey has been sentenced to 17.5 years in prison.

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced the sentence in a news release Thursday.

Christopher Miller, 31, pleaded guilty in December to two counts of first-degree robbery and one count of second-degree robbery.

The charges stem from three robberies that occurred in December 2021 and January 2022.

In each case, Miller entered a business wearing a Mahomes jersey and demanded money from the clerk.

He threatened to harm the clerks if they did not comply.

Miller was arrested on Jan. 21, 2022, after a robbery at a Family Dollar store in Kansas City.

He was identified as a suspect in the other two robberies based on surveillance footage.

Baker said in the news release that Miller's “brazen and violent behavior” had a “significant impact” on the victims and the community.

She said the sentence sends a “clear message” that such behavior will not be tolerated.

He was known for his enthusiastic support of the team and his frequent appearances on television during games.

Miller's arrest and subsequent conviction shocked many Chiefs fans.

Some fans have expressed sympathy for Miller, saying that he may have been struggling with mental health issues at the time of the robberies.

The Chiefs organization has not commented on Miller's case.
