Dodgers Take Early Lead in Cactus League Matchup

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners took to the field in Scottsdale, Arizona on Friday for their first Cactus League matchup of the spring. The Dodgers jumped out to an early lead thanks to a two-run single by Miguel Vargas in the first inning and a solo homer by Trayce Thompson in the second.

The Mariners answered back with a run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Jarred Kelenic, but the Dodgers extended their lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning on a wild pitch by Mariners reliever Nick Margevicius.

Mariners Rally Back in Middle Innings

The Mariners chipped away at the Dodgers lead in the fifth inning with a two-run homer by Eugenio Suarez, and they tied the game in the sixth inning on a solo homer by Teoscar Hernandez.

The Mariners took the lead for the first time in the seventh inning on a go-ahead RBI single by Sam Haggerty, but the Dodgers tied the game again in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by Vargas.

Dodgers Win in Extras

The game remained tied until the 10th inning, when the Dodgers loaded the bases with one out and brought up Michael Busch. Busch lined a single to left field, driving in two runs and giving the Dodgers a 7-5 victory.

Pitching Performances

Dodgers starter Tony Gonsolin pitched 3.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks. Mariners starter George Kirby pitched 2.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks.

The Dodgers bullpen was solid, with reliever Phil Bickford pitching 2.2 scoreless innings and striking out four batters. The Mariners bullpen struggled, with relievers Margevicius and Matt Brash both allowing runs in their outings.

Offensive Standouts

The Dodgers were led offensively by Vargas, who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Thompson also had a good game, going 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs.
