Early Life and Playing Career
Julie Gaul was born on May 12, 1959, in Union City, Pennsylvania. She attended Union City High School, where she excelled in volleyball, basketball, and track and field. In 1977, she enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh, where she played volleyball for the Panthers from 1977 to 1980. During her time at Pitt, Gaul was a four-time All-American and led the Panthers to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
Coaching Career
After graduating from Pitt, Gaul began her coaching career as an assistant coach at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1984, she was named the head coach at the University of Colorado Boulder. Under Gaul's leadership, the Buffaloes won four Big 12 Championships and made four NCAA Tournament appearances.
