Volleyball Tournament Overview

The KOVO Cup is an annual volleyball tournament featuring South Korean professional volleyball clubs. It is the second most prestigious volleyball competition in South Korea, after the V-League.

The tournament was first held in 1997 and is organized by the Korean Volleyball Federation (KOVO). It is typically held in January or February of each year.

Participating Teams

Ten teams participate in the KOVO Cup: seven from the V-League and three from the Challengers League (second division).

The V-League teams are: Hyundai Skywalkers, Samsung Bluefangs, KB Stars, Incheon Korean Air Jumbos, Seoul Woori Card Wibee, Suwon KEPCO Vixtorm, and Daejeon Samsung Fire Bluefangs.

The Challengers League teams are: Ansan OK Savings Bank Rush & Cash, Gimcheon Hi-Pass, and Sangmu.

Tournament Format

The tournament is played in a round-robin format. Each team plays each other once, for a total of nine matches.

The top four teams at the end of the round-robin stage advance to the semi-finals. The semi-finals and final are played in a single-elimination format.

Prize Money

The prize money for the KOVO Cup is as follows:

  • Champion: ₩100 million (approx. US$80,000)
  • Runner-up: ₩50 million (approx. US$40,000)
  • Third place: ₩30 million (approx. US$24,000)
  • Fourth place: ₩20 million (approx. US$16,000)
