Early Life and Education

Knut Storberget was born on October 8, 1964, in Steinkjer, Norway. He grew up in a working-class family and attended Steinkjer High School. After graduating, he studied law at the University of Oslo, where he earned a degree in 1992.

Storberget began his law career as a lawyer in Steinkjer in 1992. He later served as a prosecutor in Norway's National Police Directorate from 1996 to 2000.

Political Career

Storberget entered politics in 2000 when he was elected to the Norwegian Parliament as a representative of the Labour Party. He served as a member of the Standing Committee on Justice from 2001 to 2005.

In 2005, Storberget was appointed Minister of Justice and the Police in the government of Jens Stoltenberg. He served in this role until 2011.

As Minister of Justice and the Police, Storberget was responsible for a wide range of issues, including crime prevention, law enforcement, and the administration of the justice system.

One of Storberget's most notable achievements as Minister of Justice was the introduction of a new penal code in 2005. The new penal code made several changes to the Norwegian criminal justice system, including increasing the severity of penalties for certain crimes and expanding the use of community service as an alternative to imprisonment.

Storberget also played a key role in the government's response to the 2011 terrorist attacks in Norway. He was responsible for overseeing the investigation into the attacks and the implementation of new security measures to prevent future attacks.

Later Career

After leaving the government in 2011, Storberget continued to be active in politics. He served as the leader of the Labour Party's parliamentary group from 2011 to 2013. In 2013, he was appointed as Norway's Ambassador to Sweden.

Storberget left his post as Ambassador to Sweden in 2017 and has since worked as a lawyer and a political commentator.

Knut Storberget is married to Anne Storberget, a former politician. They have two children.
