Early Life and Education

Wishnu Wardhana was born on May 12, 1951, in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He completed his primary and secondary education in Yogyakarta before moving to Jakarta to pursue higher education. Wardhana obtained a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Indonesia and a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University.

Career

Wardhana began his career as a civil servant in the Ministry of Finance in 1976. He held various positions within the ministry, including Director General of Budget and Director General of Taxation. In 1999, Wardhana was appointed as Minister of Finance by President Abdurrahman Wahid. He served in this position until 2001.

After leaving government service, Wardhana became involved in the private sector. He served as President Director of Bank Mandiri, one of Indonesia's largest banks, from 2002 to 2005. He also served as Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) from 2005 to 2010.

Political Career

Wardhana returned to politics in 2012 when he was elected as Governor of East Java. He served in this position until 2019. During his tenure as Governor, Wardhana focused on economic development, infrastructure, and education. He also played a key role in promoting tourism and investment in East Java.

In 2019, Wardhana was elected as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives. He is currently a member of the Commission on Finance.

Philanthropy

Wardhana is a well-known philanthropist. He has established several foundations that support education, healthcare, and social welfare programs. He is also a major supporter of the arts and culture.

Awards and Recognition

Wardhana has received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to Indonesia. These include the Bintang Jasa Utama (Grand Medal of Honor) from the President of Indonesia, the Order of the British Empire from the Queen of England, and the Legion of Honor from the President of France.

Wardhana is married to Endang Sri Wahyuni. They have three children.
