Irvine Comes Up Short in Gridiron Matchup
Local High School Football Team Falls to Rival
Irvine High School's football team suffered a disappointing loss on Friday night, falling to their cross-town rivals, the Woodcreek Timberwolves.
Despite a strong start to the game, the Vaqueros were unable to maintain their momentum and ultimately succumbed to the Timberwolves' relentless offensive attack.
Irvine drew first blood in the opening minutes of the game, with a touchdown pass from quarterback Jake Thompson to wide receiver Ryan Thomas. However, Woodcreek responded with a pair of touchdowns before halftime, taking a 14-7 lead into the break.
The second half proved to be even more challenging for Irvine, as Woodcreek's offense continued to dominate. The Timberwolves scored three unanswered touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters, while Irvine's offense sputtered and failed to find the end zone.
Irvine's defense, which had been a bright spot for the team all season, was unable to contain Woodcreek's high-powered attack. The Timberwolves rushed for over 200 yards and passed for another 150 yards, while Irvine struggled to generate any consistent offense.
The loss drops Irvine to 2-3 on the season and marks the first time the team has lost to Woodcreek since 2019. The Vaqueros will look to rebound next week when they travel to face the Rancho Cotate Cougars.
