Andy Carroll: No Regrets About Joining Liverpool Despite Struggles
Former Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has said that he has no regrets about joining the club, despite struggling to make an impact during his time at Anfield.
Carroll joined Liverpool from Newcastle United in January 2011 for a fee of £35 million, but he failed to live up to expectations and was sold to West Ham United in 2013.
In an interview with The Athletic, Carroll said that he “gave it everything” during his time at Liverpool, but admitted that he “wasn't good enough” to succeed at the club.
“I don't regret joining Liverpool,” Carroll said. “It was a dream come true. I was playing with some of the best players in the world and I was learning from one of the best managers in the world. I just wish I could have done more on the pitch.”
Carroll scored just 11 goals in 58 appearances for Liverpool, but he said that he still has fond memories of his time at the club.
“I loved my time at Liverpool,” Carroll said. “The fans were amazing and the club is steeped in history. I'm grateful for the opportunity to have played there.”
Carroll is now playing for Reading in the Championship, and he said that he is enjoying his football again.
“I'm really happy at Reading,” Carroll said. “I'm playing regularly and I'm scoring goals. I'm just enjoying my football again.”
Carroll's time at Liverpool may not have been a success, but he said that he has no regrets about joining the club.
“I gave it everything I had,” Carroll said. “I wasn't good enough, but I have no regrets.”
