November 1st – the Day of Remembrance of the Holy Father Seraphim of Sarov
The holy righteous Seraphim of Sarov was born on August 19, 1754, in the city of Kursk. As a teenager, he worked as a carpenter in the construction of the Sarov monastery. At the age of 27, he entered the monastery and began to lead a hermitic life. In 1793 he was ordained a hieromonk, and in 1807 he became abbot of the Sarov monastery. Father Seraphim was a miracle worker and a seer. He predicted many events, including the victory of Russia in the Patriotic War of 1812 and the accession to the throne of Emperor Nicholas II. Seraphim of Sarov died on January 2, 1833, and was buried at the Sarov monastery. In 1903, he was canonized. Seraphim of Sarov was one of the most beloved saints in Russia. He was known for his kindness, meekness and humility. Seraphim of Sarov often said: “Acquire a peaceful spirit, and thousands around you will be saved.”
