Celtics Forward Ejected After Elbow To Tatum's Head

Incident Occurs Late In Third Quarter Of Celtics-Heat Game

Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams was ejected from Friday night's game against the Miami Heat after a flagrant two foul on Jayson Tatum.

With 2:26 remaining in the third quarter and the Celtics trailing by 12, Williams attempted to set a screen on Tatum near the top of the key. Tatum lowered his shoulder and tried to push through the screen, but Williams' elbow connected with Tatum's head.

Tatum immediately grabbed his head and fell to the ground. Williams was assessed a flagrant two foul and was ejected from the game.

Tatum returned to the game after being checked out by the team's medical staff. He finished the game with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists.

The Celtics went on to lose the game 102-82. Williams' ejection was a major blow to Boston, as he is one of their most versatile defenders.

After the game, Williams apologized for his actions.

“I just want to apologize to Jayson and the team,” Williams said. “I didn't mean to hit him in the head. I was just trying to set a hard screen.”

Tatum said he accepted Williams' apology.

“It's a tough play,” Tatum said. “We're both competitive guys. I'm just glad I'm okay.”

The NBA is expected to review the play and could potentially suspend Williams for his actions.
