Early Life and Education
Cedric Engels was born on March 8, 1985, in Detroit, Michigan. He attended the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science. He then went on to earn a Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School.
Career
After graduating from law school, Engels worked as a law clerk for Judge Damon Keith of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He then worked as an associate at the law firm of Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn. In 2018, Engels was appointed to the Michigan Supreme Court by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
Personal Life
Engels is married to Dr. Anya Gelernt, a pediatrician. They have two children. Engels is an avid runner and enjoys playing basketball and tennis. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Michigan Innocence Clinic.
