Who Will Be India's Next Head Coach?
VVS Laxman, Gautam Gambhir, and Other Top Contenders
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly considering a number of candidates to replace Ravi Shastri as head coach of the Indian cricket team. Among the frontrunners are VVS Laxman, Gautam Gambhir, and Rahul Dravid.
Laxman is a former Indian cricketer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time. He played 134 Tests and 86 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for India, scoring over 11,000 runs in both formats. Laxman has also been successful as a coach, leading the Sunrisers Hyderabad to victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2016.
Gambhir is another former Indian cricketer who has had a successful career as a coach. He played 58 Tests and 147 ODIs for India, scoring over 10,000 runs in both formats. Gambhir led the Kolkata Knight Riders to victory in the IPL twice, in 2012 and 2014.
Other Contenders
In addition to Laxman and Gambhir, a number of other candidates are also in the running for the India head coach job. These include:
- Rahul Dravid: A former Indian cricketer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time. He played 164 Tests and 344 ODIs for India, scoring over 13,000 runs in both formats.
- Anil Kumble: A former Indian cricketer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest bowlers of all time. He played 132 Tests and 271 ODIs for India, taking over 600 wickets in both formats.
- Tom Moody: An Australian cricket coach who has had success with a number of teams, including the Western Warriors, Sri Lanka, and the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
- Gary Kirsten: A South African cricket coach who led India to victory in the 2011 World Cup.
The BCCI is expected to make a decision on the new head coach in the coming weeks.
