The Tourist Season Might Be Ending, But The Tourist Dollars Are Still Rolling In

Sandbridge may not be as crowded as it was in the past few months, but the money being spent is on course to being another record-breaking year for Virginia Beach's tourism industry.

That’s according to Taylor Adams, Beach House Realty owner, who said the rental business has been hot thanks to a rising number of visitors to the area. He said the area has seen a 25% increase in visitors overall, with many coming from up the coast as well as North Carolina, Ohio, West Virginia, and Maryland. “A lot of people who used to go to Myrtle Beach have decided to try Virginia Beach since it’s a little bit closer and offers a lot of the same amenities,” Adams said.

The trend is hopefully a sign that Virginia Beach is shaking its old image of being just a seasonal vacation spot and becoming a year-round destination, said Ashley White, Virginia Beach’s director of tourism. “The key is to build upon this momentum to spread awareness of all the wonderful things Virginia Beach has to offer throughout the year,” White said.
