David Lynch reveals emphysema diagnosis

Filmmaker says he will never retire

David Lynch has revealed he has been diagnosed with emphysema, a chronic lung disease caused by many years of smoking.

The 78-year-old Mulholland Drive and Dune filmmaker said he was diagnosed after a recent hospital stay.

“I've got emphysema,” Lynch said in a video posted on his website. “It's a lung disease that I got from smoking cigarettes. I smoked for many years, and it's finally caught up with me.”

Lynch said the emphysema limits his ability to direct films, but he said he has no plans to retire.

“I'm not going to retire,” Lynch said. “I love making films, and I'm going to keep making them as long as I can.”

Lynch's diagnosis comes as a surprise to many fans, who have long admired his prolific output of films, television shows, and music.

Lynch is considered one of the most influential filmmakers of his generation, and his work has been praised for its surrealism, dark humor, and psychological depth.
