Tributes pour in for musician Carl Bevan

Carl Bevan has died at the age of 51

Tributes have poured in from across the music industry following the death of celebrated Welsh artist and musician Carl Bevan.

The 51-year-old rose to fame as the drummer of the 1990s punk rock band 60ft Dolls. The band released two albums and toured extensively before splitting up in 1998. Bevan went on to pursue a solo career, releasing several albums and EPs. He also collaborated with a number of other artists, including The Clash's Mick Jones and Paul Simonon. In a statement released on social media, Bevan's partner said that he had died peacefully in his sleep. He said that Bevan had been suffering from a long-term illness. Bevan's death has been met with shock and sadness by the music community. Tributes have come in from friends, fans and fellow musicians, including Billy Bragg, Gruff Rhys and Manic Street Preachers. In a statement, Bragg said that Bevan was “one of the most talented and original musicians of his generation”. He said that Bevan's death was “a great loss to the music world”. Rhys said that Bevan was “a true pioneer” who had “helped to shape the sound of Welsh music”. He said that Bevan's death was “a sad day for Wales”. The Manic Street Preachers said that Bevan was “a great musician and a good friend”. They said that they were “deeply saddened” by his death. Bevan's funeral will take place in Cardiff on Friday 13th March. He is survived by his partner and two children.
