New York Yankees Defeat Texas Rangers In First Game Of 2023 Season
The New York Yankees opened their 2023 season with an 8-4 victory over the Texas Rangers on Friday night at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
The Yankees got a strong start from their ace Gerrit Cole, who allowed just two runs on four hits over 6.1 innings. Cole struck out nine batters and walked two.
The Yankees offense was led by Aaron Judge, who hit a two-run home run in the first inning. Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Rizzo also homered for the Yankees.
The Rangers got on the board in the second inning on a solo home run by Nathaniel Lowe. They added another run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Corey Seager.
The Yankees broke the game open in the sixth inning with a five-run rally. Judge led off the inning with a single, and Stanton followed with a double. Rizzo then drove in Stanton with a single, and DJ LeMahieu made it 5-2 with a sacrifice fly.
The Rangers got two runs back in the seventh inning on a two-run double by Brad Miller, but the Yankees bullpen held on to secure the victory.
With the win, the Yankees improve to 1-0 on the season. The Rangers fall to 0-1.
