Cardinals Shutout Pirates 4-0 Behind Strong Performance by Pallante

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-0 on Friday night at Busch Stadium. Cardinals starter Dakota Hudson was outstanding, pitching six innings of shutout ball. He allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out nine batters.

Pallante's Performance

The Pirates managed just one hit off Hudson in the first five innings of the game. He retired the first nine batters he faced and did not allow a runner to reach second base until the fifth inning.

Hudson's outing was the longest of his career. He threw 100 pitches, 70 of which were strikes.

Cardinals Offense

The Cardinals offense provided just enough support for Hudson. They scored two runs in the first inning on a double by Paul Goldschmidt and a single by Tommy Edman. They added two more runs in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Lars Nootbaar and a single by Goldschmidt.

Pirates Struggles

The Pirates offense was unable to get anything going against Hudson. They managed just four hits in the game and struck out 13 times.

Pirates starter JT Brubaker allowed four runs on seven hits in four innings of work. He walked two batters and struck out four.
