Early Life and Education

Gilbert Bouchet was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on August 14, 1902. As a young boy, he exhibited a fascination with aviation, spending countless hours building model airplanes and studying the intricacies of flight.

In 1925, Bouchet earned his degree in engineering from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Aviation Career

After graduating from MIT, Bouchet returned to Haiti and founded the Haitian Aviation School. He became the nation's first certified Haitian pilot in 1927 and dedicated his career to promoting aviation in his homeland.

Bouchet's pioneering spirit led him to establish the first Haitian national airline, Compagnie Haitienne de Transport Aerien (COHATA), in 1934. This venture marked a significant milestone in Haitian transportation and opened up new possibilities for commerce and connectivity.

Later Life and Legacy

Bouchet's contributions to Haitian aviation were far-reaching. He established the country's first air traffic control system and trained countless young people in the field of aeronautics.

Bouchet passed away in 1957, leaving behind a legacy of innovation, perseverance, and passion for aviation that continues to inspire future generations in Haiti and beyond.
