A Slow Start, a Critical Gaffe and Another Sharks Loss: When Will Misery End?
A Slow Start
The San Jose Sharks' struggles continued on Saturday night as they fell to the Anaheim Ducks 4-2. The Sharks have now lost four straight games and are 1-4-1 in their last six games.
The Sharks got off to a slow start on Saturday night, allowing the Ducks to take a 2-0 lead in the first period. The Sharks finally got on the board in the second period when Timo Meier scored a power-play goal, but the Ducks extended their lead to 3-1 in the third period.
The Sharks made a late push in the third period, but it was too little, too late. Logan Couture scored a goal with just over two minutes remaining, but the Ducks held on for the 4-2 victory.
A Critical Gaffe
The Sharks' loss on Saturday night was particularly frustrating because it was largely due to a critical gaffe by goaltender Martin Jones.
With the Sharks trailing 2-1 in the third period, Jones made a poor decision to come out of his net to play a puck behind the net. The puck bounced off the boards and right to Ducks forward Rickard Rakell, who easily scored into an empty net.
The goal gave the Ducks a 3-1 lead and essentially put the game out of reach for the Sharks.
Another Sharks Loss
The Sharks' loss on Saturday night was their fourth straight loss and dropped their record to 10-14-3 on the season.
The Sharks are now in last place in the Pacific Division and are just two points ahead of the Arizona Coyotes, who have the worst record in the NHL.
The Sharks will look to snap their losing streak on Tuesday night when they host the Vegas Golden Knights.
