Another tourist, Bakytzhan Sarsenbayev, was on a boat trip when the earthquake struck. “We felt the boat lurch suddenly and then we saw a huge wave approaching,” he said. “We managed to steer the boat to safety, but we could see buildings collapsing on the shore.”
