Elon Musk subpoenaed over alleged voter suppression

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been subpoenaed by a voting rights group over his alleged role in suppressing the vote in the 2022 midterm elections.

The subpoena, which was filed by the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, alleges that Musk violated federal law by using his Twitter account to spread misinformation about the election and by encouraging his followers to vote for Republican candidates.

The subpoena seeks documents and communications related to Musk's efforts to influence the election, including any communications with Republican candidates or campaign officials.

Musk has denied the allegations, calling them “baseless.” However, the subpoena could force him to turn over evidence that could support the claims.

If Musk is found to have violated federal law, he could face civil penalties or even criminal charges.

The subpoena is the latest in a series of legal challenges facing Musk. He is also being sued by Twitter shareholders over his $44 billion acquisition of the company and by the Securities and Exchange Commission over his tweets about Tesla's stock price.

Musk's legal troubles are a sign of the growing scrutiny that he is facing as he becomes increasingly involved in politics.
