Wrexham out to make more FA Cup history as they face Harrogate Town

FA Cup's magic remains as National League Wrexham aim to make more history when they face League Two opposition in the fourth round

The FA Cup may not hold the same prestige it once did, but its magic is still capable of producing some wonderful stories.

And Wrexham are hoping to write another chapter in their own rich history when they welcome Harrogate Town to the Racecourse Ground for a fourth-round clash on Sunday.

History in the making

The Welsh club, who are now fan-owned, are the third-most successful side in the competition's history, having lifted the trophy on five occasions – the last of which came in 1995.

But they have not reached the quarter-finals since 1997 and have only made it past the third round once in the last 20 years.

However, Wrexham are enjoying a resurgence under manager Phil Parkinson and are currently top of the National League, the fifth tier of English football.

They have already beaten two League Two sides – Newport County and Colchester United – in this season's FA Cup and will be confident of causing another upset against Harrogate.

Harrogate hopeful

Harrogate are also enjoying a good season and are currently 11th in League Two.

They have never reached the fifth round of the FA Cup before, but they will be hoping to make history of their own on Sunday.

Manager Simon Weaver will be without a number of key players for the trip to Wrexham, but he will still be confident of his team's chances.

What the managers say

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson:

“We're really excited about the game. It's a great opportunity for us to make more history.”
.

Harrogate manager Simon Weaver:

“We know it's going to be a tough game, but we're confident we can cause an upset.”
.

Conclusion

The FA Cup is always full of surprises and this year's competition has already thrown up a few shocks.

Wrexham will be confident of adding to the list of giant-killings when they face Harrogate on Sunday.

But the League Two side will be no pushovers and will be determined to make history of their own.
