Early Career and Coaching Success

James William “Jimmy” Johnson, born July 16, 1943, is a renowned sports analyst and former football coach. From 1979 to 1988, he served as a head football coach on the collegiate level. After leading Oklahoma State to two bowl appearances in the early 1980s, Johnson made a name for himself at the University of Miami.

National Championship Victories

**

Under Johnson's leadership, the Miami Hurricanes reached two national title games. In 1987, they defeated the Nebraska Cornhuskers to claim their first national championship. Johnson repeated his success in 1991, guiding the Hurricanes to another national title victory over the University of Alabama.

Dallas Cowboys Dynasty

**

Following his collegiate coaching career, Johnson joined the NFL as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. From 1989 to 1993, he led the team to two Super Bowl victories (XXVII and XXVIII). His success with the Cowboys solidified his legacy as one of the greatest coaches in NFL history.

After retiring from coaching, Johnson became an analyst for FOX NFL SUNDAY. Alongside hosts Curt Menefee and Terry Bradshaw, as well as analysts Howie Long and Michael Strahan, Johnson provides expert commentary and insights on the NFL's biggest games and stories.

Memoir and Accolades

**

In addition to his broadcasting career, Johnson has authored a memoir titled “Swerving on the Highway to Heaven: The Odyssey of an NFL Head Coach and His Family.” Johnson has been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the College Football Hall of Fame, and the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
