The Amazon River, one of the world's largest and longest rivers, is situated in the northern region of South America. It originates in the Andes Mountains of Peru and flows eastward across the continent, discharging into the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Amazon River. Its course spans approximately 4,000 miles (6,400 kilometers).
