What You Need to Know

Custom and Antique Vehicles

Under state laws motorists requesting a TX registration for custom cars or antique rides must first check with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TXDMV) to determine if the vehicle qualifies for special license plates.

The fees for a special background license plates are as follows:

• Personalized Plate: $75
• Historic Plate: $50
• Antique Plate: $50

The Antique plate is issued for a five-year period to a qualifying vehicle. The plate fee is $50 if the vehicle was manufactured at least 30 years ago and is in its original condition.
